Reminder to comment on proposed one-way conversion of Buckley Road, Athlone

26 September 2025

The City of Cape Town proposes to convert Buckley Road in Athlone into a one-way road between St Athans Road towards Thornton Road in Athlone. This is in an effort to assist the educational and religious institutions located along this road and the high number of vulnerable road users frequenting these sites during peak times. This is a reminder to residents and all road users to submit their comments or recommendations by 1 October 2025.

‘Apart from efforts to make this road safer, the implementation of the proposed one-way conversion of a section of Buckley Road in Athlone will assist with improving traffic flow during peak periods and there will be more on-street parking available. We ask that residents and all interested parties submit their comments before 1 October 2025,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
